Thanksgiving Post in September?

Hello wonderful people!

Check out these fall leaves! They’re so pretty. Autumn has fallen upon Utah and I love it so much.

This week, I finally felt like I found a nice equilibrium between all of my competing responsibilities. I’m sure that something will eventually destabilize that again, but I actually managed to finish a lot of my assignments early and wasn’t nearly so pressed for time as I usually am. Any night when I’m not working on homework until midnight is a fantastic night in my book.

But through all of that, I was also given several reminders to keep being grateful even when my life is chaotic and stressful. Despite the reality that school is challenging sometimes, the fact that I’m here at a college that I can realistically afford learning lessons that will help me make the world a better place is so cool! And I feel very blessed to have that opportunity. It is one that too few people get to experience and I hope that I never take it for granted (even during finals week). I have running water, friends who care about me, an internet connection, and enough to live on. It’s not much more than that and it doesn’t need to be. That on its own is already so much to be grateful for.

Now of course, life isn’t perfect. There is still plenty of chaos and stress and worry and wishing for things that I don’t have yet. But all of that fades into the background when I am intentional about looking at my life through the lens of gratitude. I am very grateful for my life, for the chances I have to make something out of it that can help other people, and for all of the people around me who have helped me get to where I am.

I know that there is a lot out there to be grateful for in your life as well. If you’re not really feeling that right now, then try taking some time every day this week to write down just ten things you are grateful for. That makes for a total of seventy by the end of the week. Every time I’ve done this exercise I’ve felt a lot happier by the end of the week, and all the friends that I know have tried it too also felt a difference. It’s a little thing, but it will make a big difference.

Thanks for reading and for being patient with my crazy posting schedule! No Restbringer part two this week but now that life is calming down a bit I hope to have more time to pound it out as soon as possible. I’ll keep you all posted.

Till next time!
