Growth

	Hello wonderful people!

Something I’ve discovered this summer is that I like growing food plants. Something else I’ve discovered is that you can only fit so many into a tiny six-man college apartment. Oopsies.
Seriously, look at that crowd. I’m afraid I’ve exhausted my available space. Guess I’ll have to build myself some more— good thing I’m learning engineering!
It’s been very cool to watch this little set-up and the plants in it growing slowly and surely as the summer has progressed. It started out with the basil plant; I had run out of dried basil and needed some more, so I figured I’d buy a potted version. What’s the worst that could happen? I thought.
And then it continued. The basil nearly died, and I had to revive it. After that, I decided that it could hurt to try regrowing some scrapped green onions. Surely it would stop there. But next came the lettuce. I’d run out of pots by this point, but I wasn’t going to let something trivial like that stop me, so I learned how to make my own from leftover peanut jars. Then came the celery. And now this Saturday, with a smaller-than-average grocery trip, I picked up a mint plant to further add to the chaos.
It has been truly beautiful to watch this little patch of living splendor growing over the past few months. Most of them are reconstituted scraps; everything but the mint was on the brink of death when I got it. But with a bit of soil, room to spread out, and some sunlight and water, they’ve slowly grown more and more healthy and vibrant (though the lettuce appears to be struggling after being repotted now).
I think it’s beautiful that under the right conditions, life just expands to fill whatever space is available to it. It doesn’t take that much to grow; it just takes time and good conditions. And it’s beautiful to see the result.
I’m grateful for a world full of growing and living things, and for the chance to grow my own.
	Talk to you all later!

Best wishes,
Ezra
