New Beginnings

Hello wonderful people!

Welcome, everyone, to the first big thing I’ve done on the internet!

I started building this project about a year ago now. I was so excited to create a place for me to share my writing and experiences with the world!

Life is funny about things like this, though, and once school started up again, my pipe dream ruptured under the weight of a heavy course load, busy social life, and the general stresses of life. While I wouldn’t have traded any of it for the world, it did mean that I ended up letting the “Stories By Ezra” dream get buried for a little while, and I didn’t think too much about it. So. Much. To. Do! And of course there’s always something easier to do with my spare time than learning how little I know about web design.

Well! Here we are now. It’s summer, I have the time, and life is too short to let dreams die. And so dream I shall!

The main purpose of this site is to provide a happy home for my fiction writing. However, since I really missed writing weekly emails like I did during a mission for my Church, I’m attaching this little side project to it too—- a journal I can share with everyone! Time and time again I have learned that being open and sharing my experiences does so much more good than I expect it to. Writing has always felt like the most natural way for me to express what I'm feeling, and since unprompted, open sharing is something that doesn't come easily to me otherwise (I tend to shield my internal self pretty heavily) I think that this public journal will be a good way for me to learn to put myself out there while I build some good, consistent writing habits.

For those who read through my previous behemoth emails, these won’t be quite the same. I hope they'll be slightly shorter, for one thing (previous readers are probably breathing a sigh of relief right now). And I haven't decided yet how much I plan on wearing my spirituality on my sleeve here, since this website is meant for a bit of a broader audience than my missionary emails were. However, I still want what I write to be as real and personal as possible. I won’t share many specific details about my life (so no rants about how Sally from Target cut me off at the stop light oh my goodness WHY Sally) but I will post about general thoughts and feelings and any other sorts of experiences that I feel are constructive. (Also, don’t worry. I don’t actually know any Sally’s.)

I hope you’ll be able to find something to connect with here! I plan to make little journal entries like this one every Saturday, so stay tuned if you want to follow what I'm up to! I also eventually want this website to be a home for my fiction pieces, but I'm not quite as fast at pumping those out, so posting a short story or chapter in a longer piece once a month is my goal right now. I have one short story peace which is nearly finished, and my goal is to post it next Saturday.

I'm excited to share this journey with you! See you next week.

Best Wishes,

Ezra
